It’s hard to pinpoint when my yoga path began… it seems the roots of the philosophy have always been a part of my life (raised by a Buddhist mom) and planted the seeds for my (eventual!) physical/asana practice. I’ve always been active in a variety of sports for fun and fitness (usually in that order) and am continually reminded that “it’s all yoga” -- the asana practice complements every other physical activity in your life, but true yoga is rooted in a spiritual practice.
Searching for physical discipline and a mind-body connection, I studied martial arts (tae kwon do) for a few years. I don’t know how conscious the decision was at the time, but I wanted to move more toward the Eight Limb Path and starting around 2001 rediscovered yoga as a physical practice. I experimented with several different styles including Ashtanga, Iyengar and Bikram (and less successfully some “gym” yoga) before falling in love with Vinyasa.
I love the idea of using a powerful, physically challenging practice to create a moving mediation... to finding grace and fluidity in difficult moments. As for teaching style… I will strive to make it fun and accessible, experimenting with modern music, finding your edge but no pressure, always mindful that you are your own best teacher.
